This study aimed to compare the effects of child CBT and mother/child CBT for children with anxiety disorder. 24 child-mother pairs were randomly assigned to either a treatment group(child CBT, mother/child CBT) or a wait-list control group. Child CBT and mother/child CBT programs consisted of 10 sessions, approximately 1 hour in duration. The results of the study were as follows: 1) For the child CBT group and the mother/child CBT group, a significant decrease in negative automatic thoughts and anxiety was marked at the post-test in relation to the pre-test. For both groups, a significant increase in social skills, peer relationship skills, and social problem solving was shown. 2) For the mothers in the mother/child CBT group only, a significant decrease in anxiety was shown. 3) In comparison with the child CBT group, the mother/child CBT group showed lower anxiety and higher positive social skills and social problem solving.
